Robotics teams heading to world competitions
Emmett J. Conrad’s Robochargers team advanced to the U.S. FIRST Robotics World Championship after taking second place at the regional competition in San Antonio earlier this month. The team will now travel to St. Louis, Missouri next month to compete in the world competition.
Three elementary robotics teams will represent the district in the VEX World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky—a competition that brings together some of the top robotics teams from around the world, which takes place April 20-23. Two of the teams are from Winnetka Elementary and the third is from Caillet Elementary. Congratulations to all of the teams.
Young entrepreneurs compete in financial literacy initiative
Students from several Dallas ISD middle schools are competing in the BizKid$ Entrepreneurship Contest sponsored by the Credit Union of Texas. The program uses the Emmy Award-winning series, BizKid$, to teach students the basics of financial literacy and entrepreneurship in a fun way, as they develop and present their own business plans. The teams are competing in the semi-finals tonight, and winners will advance to the regional round competing with teams from Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
The schools participating are: Robert T. Hill, STEAM Middle School at D.A. Hulcy, Harold W. Lang, H.W. Longfellow Career Exploration Academy, Francisco “Pancho” Medrano, Boude Storey, Sam Tasby, and William B. Travis.
Dallas ISD recognizes scholars
Congratulations to the recipients of the Dallas ISD Scholars program who were recognized for demonstrating academic excellence by scoring in the 95th percentile on state exams or at a college-ready level on national exams. More than 1,000 students were recognized at a ceremony held earlier this week.
