District Accolades--8/24/2017

August 24, 2017 Board Meeting

Dallas ISD began the year with a “Met Standard” rating from the Texas Education Agency. Data released by the agency shows:

  • 94 percent (218) campuses met state standards
  • 30 received every possible distinction
  • 149 received at least one distinction
  • 14 IR schools

The districtwide College Fair is set for September 20, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ellis Davis Field House. All 11th and 12th grade students and their parents are encouraged to attend.

Basketball legend Nancy Lieberman is continuing her support of Dallas ISD students by challenging them to commit to 10 hours of community service for the year. In return, students from Bryan Adams High School, and Robert T. Hill and Gaston middle schools will receive backpacks filled with supplies.

Congratulations to Amari DeFrance, a student at Seagoville P-TECH, who won the top prize at the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Biz Camp this summer. She was the first participant from Texas to compete in the Biz Camp summer program. Students create business ideas and work to complete a business plan. Amari’s plan took first place among all Biz Camp students in the United States, and netted her a $1,000 prize. She will present her plan for “Amari’s City of Scrub” at the NFTE National Business Competition in October in New York City.

American Airlines joined the students at Adamson’s Collegiate Academy to host a Back-to-School celebration where they provided backpacks for the students enrolled in the program. American Airlines is the school’s industry partner, and they brought along some of their top executive leadership to speak with students as they prepare to start the year. Also, one of the executives, Patrick Morin, has committed a $5,000 scholarship to the top graduate of the academy. AND American will match that with another $5,000 scholarship for another top student.
