Mr. Carlos Rengifo
Carlos Rengifo is a Colombian bassist, composer and music educator. He has been an active musician in the Dallas area for 17 years, where he has performed and written music for various Jazz, Latin, and Classical ensembles. He holds a B.M. and an M.M. in Jazz Studies (composition/arranging tracks) from the University of North Texas. Mr. Rengifo is the director of orchestras at Marsh Preparatory Academy and teaches Jazz Bass and American Music at Eastfield College.
His early experience with classical ensembles started in Cali, Colombia in 1997, performing with the then called “Sinfónica del Valle” (now “Filármonica de Cali”) and the “Banda Departamental del Valle del Cauca” (the local wind symphony). In 1999 he moved to Texas where he has performed with the “Las Colinas Symphony”, the “Sherman Symphony” and a variety of chamber music ensembles. Mr. Rengifo is also an active bassist performing with Latin Jazz and Salsa ensembles such as Jose Aponte’s “Caribe Club”, Salsa band “Carabali”, and his own Latin Jazz Sextet “Citizens of The World”.
